Stay-cation

Last summer we painted and laid a new floor, with the oversight of our fuzzy-foreman.

Prepping and taping for the first coat of paint.

After 2 coats we called it a job well done and moved on to the flooring.

We tore up the carpet and under padding.

Laid the new barrier and laminate flooring.

It took longer than expect... as usual!

But eventually it met Zoli's high standards.

Finally it was christened with it's first tea party.

The billy bookcases moved down and we installed some lighting.

A perfect fit.

In the end, it was a very successful stay-cation.

Unatoota Solo

Inspired by the most gorgeous Hutt-like material Ruby dressed as a Huttling this halloween. Using the old gown pattern (Leia and Jedi robe) and a simple tutu (an elastic with strips of tulle and fabric tied on) I added a stuffed tail to the tutu and felt eyes to the hood to make an adorable Huttling.

Salicious crumb was a simple fleece bandana and pipe-cleaners covered in felt.
These 2 looked so good dad wanted to join their pleasure barge halloween.
I made an adult sized costume (complete with tutu for bulk). I attached the tail to the robe rather than the tutu. It dragged along behind and by the end of a rainy night of trick-or-treating it was a very authentic disgusting Hutt tail...

Rowan decided to reprise his role as Boba Fett

Zoli changed into his old stand by to hand out candy with me, in a last minute smuggler costume.

 The Fett and his bounty.

Nananananana...

In anticipation of meeting the one and only Adam West we put together a costume for our super guy.

A trip to Len's Mill for some felt, foam, and shiny blue material got us under way. We used the following pattern for the mask out of blue felt (we reinforced the 'ears' with foam to stand up). The belt and crest are felt, belt is sewn and velcro fastened.

The cape also has velcro added to easily attach to the shirt which was picked up from H and M (along with the blue boxer briefs).

Watch out villains of Gotham a newly caped crusader is on the scene!

Unfortunately the line ups were too long to see our favourite batman and his batcoptor  :-(
At least we had our own batman and rebel princess to entertain us!

Knight in shiny armour

Preschool did a study of fairy tales and one Friday all the princes, princesses and knaves came in costume.
We transformed our old darth vader kit into knight's garb with a little cardstock and markers.
Captain America's shield wrapped in tin foil made the ensemble complete!

A holiday dinner in a galaxy far far away...

The full body bib for our perpetual sticky mess and the highly entertaining chalkboard placemats were completed just in time for a holiday dinner with all the wee cousins.

The placemats were a smashing success with the wee ones aged 1.5-4.5 (the.5's are very important to our young men). Eight more are in progress for Ravine's future patrons who need a little creative outlet with dinner.

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright

Mom and Dad got in on the costume fun this year as a Jedi knight and Padme in battle mode. Zoli modeled a few of his old costumes to help Ruby get in the proper Halloween spirit.

Can someone get this walking carpet out of my way?

My costume was a quick combination of white jeggings, a boat neck tee, a cozy shawl and a few felt arm cuffs and homemade belt.

Dan's Jedi outfit was a toasty fleece robe and simple vest made following this awesomely easy pattern.

Lando gets fresh with Leia, Cloud city style.

Surrender to your inner Rebel.

You look absolutely beautiful.

Rowan wanted to be Boba Fett and as Zoli refused to be frozen in carbonite we decided to dress him up as the dashing administrator of cloud city: Lando Calrissian.

Lando is light blue pillowcase, strategically cut and coloured with a sharpie around the collar. The cape is safety pinned in place when worn.

Fett is a long sleeved tee with fleece armour and utility belt sewn on. I also stitched some "battle damage" on bits of the armour. The shoulder armour is made from left over bits of Lando's cape.

I added a cape of the same green fleece with velcro squares for warmth. The knitted "helmet" is my own creation and I will post the pattern once I scan the paper or re-create it digitally.

This halloween we decided to put Ruby in the classic Leia costume from ANH. I made the whole kit from fleece. The dress is basically this pattern plus a hood. The hat is a simple fleece hat with two tubes stuffed, coiled and sewn onto the side seams.
